तलवार बुरे आदमी के हाथ में ही दी जा सकती है। और तलवार अक्सर बुरे आदमी के हाथ में होती है। और भला आदमी तलवार छोड़ देता है और बुरा आदमी तलवार उठा लेता है। इसलिए भला आदमी बुराई को करवाने का कारण बन जाता है। जगत में जब चुनाव करना पड़ता है, तो विकल्प ऐसा नहीं होता कि यह अच्छा है और यह बुरा है। विकल्प ऐसा होता है कि यह कम बुरा है, यह ज्यादा बुरा है। जीवन में सब चुनाव ऐसे ही हैं। यहां ऐसा नहीं है कि यह अमृत है और यह
जहर है। यहां ऐसा है कि यह कम जहर है और यह ज्यादा जहर है। कम जहर को चुनना पड़ता है। यही अमृत का चुनाव है।
मोहम्मद और कृष्ण उस कम जहर को चुनते हैं। परिस्थितियां उनकी भिन्न हैं।
मेरी दृष्टि में गीता से ज्यादा युद्ध के लिए प्रेरणा देने वाली और कोई धर्म-पुस्तक जगत में नहीं है।
लेकिन इसका कारण यह नहीं है कि ये पुरुष-चित्त हैं। इसका कारण, इसका कारण यह है कि चित्त तो बिलकुल स्त्रैण हैं, बहुत
रिसेप्टिव है, बहुत ग्राहक हैं, लेकिन जिस स्थिति में ये खड़े हैं, उस स्थिति में इनका ग्रहणशील चित्त परमात्मा को पूरी तरह ग्रहण करके जो कहता है, उसी को करने में ये संलग्न हो जाते हैं।
यह मोहम्मद की तलवार परमात्मा के लिए उठी तलवार है। एग्रेसिव मोहम्मद बिलकुल नहीं हैं ,आक्रामक बिलकुल नहीं हैं। लेकिन
इसका यह मतलब नहीं है कि मोहम्मद के पीछे आक्रामक लोग इकट्ठे नहीं हुए । लेकिन पीछे इकट्ठे होने वालों की जिम्मेदारी
मोहम्मद पर नहीं जाती, किसी पर भी नहीं जाती।
महावीर जितना साहस का आदमी खोजना मुश्किल है। लेकिन कोई सोेच भी नहीं सकता था कि महावीर के पीछे कमजोर और कायर
इकट्ठे हो जाएंगे। वे इकट्ठे हुए । क्योंकि उनको आड़ मिल गई। जीवन बड़ा अजीब है। महावीर ने अहिंसा की बात की और महावीर ने कहा, अहिंसा को वही उपलब्ध हो सकता है, जिसके चित्त में भय बिलकुल नहीं रहा। लेकिन भयभीत आदमी ने सोेचा कि अहिंसा अच्छा धर्म है, इसमें कोई किसी को मारता-पीटता नहीं। न ही हम किसी को मारेंगे, न कोई हमें मारेगा। वह जो भयभीत आदमी था, उसको अहिंसा परम धर्म मालूम पड़ा। इसलिए नहीं कि अहिंसा परम धर्म था, बल्कि इसलिए कि उसके भय को लगा कि अगर सारी दुनियां अहिंसा मान ले, तो बड़ी निर्भयता से रहने का मजा आ जाए । तो जितने भयभीत आदमी थे, वे महावीर के पीछे इकट्ठे हो गए ।
