पच्चीस सौ साल तक लाओत्से की बात बीज की तरह पड़ी रही कि ठीक वक्त आए , तो उसमे अंकुर आ जाए। वह वक्त आ गया है।
अब हम लाओत्से की बातत समझ सकते हैं , लाओत्से अब समझा जा सकता है, क्योंकि हम वह सारा रास्ता चल कर देख लिए, जिसके लिए लाओत्से कहता है कि अंत में सिर्फ बीमारियां पैदा होती हैं। इसलिए मैंने लाओत्से को चुना कि हम पच्चीस सौ साल पुरानी उसकी बात–लेकिन बिलकुल कुंवारी, क्योंकि उस पर कभी नहीं चला गया–उसकी फिर चर्चा चलाएं , शामद आदमी अब राजी हो जाए ।
कहता हूं, शायद! क्योंकि कई बार ऐसा होता है कि हम मरने को राजी हो जाते हैं, लेकिन बदलने को नहीं। क्योंकि मरना ज्यादा आसान मालूम पड़ता है बजाए बदलने के। इसलिए कहता हूं, शायद आदमी राजी हो जाए । जरूरी नहीं है कि आदमी राजी हो ही।
आदमी मरने को भी राजी हो सकता है। बदलाहट में बड़ा कष्ट होता है। और मरने को हम शहीदगी भी समझ सकते हैं कि हम
शहीद हुए जा रहे हैं। और बदलाहट में अहंकार को चोट लगती है कि हमें बदलना पड़ा आदभी एक कदम रख ले जिस दिशा में, पीछे लौटने में संकोेच करता है कि लोग क्या कहेंगे!
