जीवन दो प्रकार का हो सकता है। एक, इस भांति जीना, जैसे मैं ही सारे जगत का केंद्र हूं। इस भांति, जैसे सारा जगत मेरे निमित्त ही फनाया गया है। इस भांति कि जैसे मैं परमात्मा हूं और सारा जगत मेरा सेवक है। एक जीने का ढंग यह है। एक जीने का ढंग इससे बिलकुल विपरीत है। ऐसे जीना, जैसे मैं कभी भी जगत का केंद्र नहीं हूं, जगत की परिधि हूं। ऐसे जीना, जैसे जगत परमात्मा है और मैं केवल उसका एक सेवक हूं।
ये दो ढंग के जीवन ही अधार्मिक और धार्मिक आदमी का फर्क हैं। अधार्मिक आदमी स्वयं को परमात्मा मान कर जीता है, सारे जगत को सेवक। और जैसे सारा जगत उसके लिए ही बनाया गया है, उसके शोषण के लिए ही। और धार्मिक आदमी इससे प्रतिकूल जीता है; जैसे वह है ही नहीं। जगत है, वह नहीं है।
इन दोनों तरह के जीवन का अलग-अलग परिणाम होगा।
लाओत्से कहता है, स्वर्ग और पृथ्वी दोनों ही नित्य हैं, शाश्वत। बहुत लंबी उनकी आयु है। क्या है कारण उनके इतने लंबे होने का ?
उनके नित्य होने का क्या कारण है ? क्योंकि वे स्वयं के लिए नहीं जीते हैं!
जो जितना ही स्वयं के लिए जीएगा; उतना ही उसका जीवन तनावग्रस्त, चिंता से भरा हुआ, बेचैन और परेशानी का जीवन हो जाएगा।
जो जितना ही अपने लिए जीएगा, उतनी ही परेशानी में जीएगा, उतनी ही जल्दी उसका जीवन क्षीण हो जाता है। चिंता जीवन को क्षीण कर जाती है। जो जितना ही अपने लिए कम जीएगा, उतना ही मुक्त, उतना ही निर्भार, उतना ही तनाव से शून्य, उतना ही विश्राम को उपलब्ध जीएगा।

Life can be of two types. One, live like this, as I am the center of the whole world. Like this, the whole world has been created for me. As if I am God and the whole world is my servant. This is the way of living. The way of living is quite the opposite. Living like I am never the center of the world is the periphery of the world. Live like the world is divine and I am only a servant of it.
These two ways of life are the difference between a man irreligious and religious. An irreligious man lives as a divine being, a servant to the whole world. And as the whole world is made for him, only for his exploitation. And the religious man lives adversely from it; Like it doesn't exist. The world is there, it is not.
Both these types of life will have different results.
Both heaven and earth are eternal, says Lao Tzu. Their age is very long. What is the reason for them being so long?
What is the reason for their continence? Because they do not live for themselves!
That which will live for itself; Equally his life will become a life of stress, anxiety, restlessness and trouble.
The more one lives for himself, the more he will live in trouble, the sooner his life is reduced. Anxiety destroys life. The less one will live for himself, the more free, the more weightless, the more stressful the void, the more relaxation will be available.
