लाओत्से सदय भी नहीं है, कठोर भी नहीं है। लेकिन कनफ्यूशियस को कठोर लगा होगा। क्योंकि कनफ्युशियस जैसा महा विचारक,
प्रतिष्ठा थी उसकी लाओत्से से ज्यादा। लाओत्से को कम लोग जानते थे, कनफ्यूशियस को ज्यादा। और ढाई हजार साल में लाओत्से ने नहीं चीन के मन को निर्मित किया, कनफ्यूशियस ने निर्मित किया। तो कनफ्युशियस ज्यादा प्रतिष्ठित था। सम्राट उसको सम्मान देते थे। सम्राट उठ कर उसको बैठने को कहते थे। और एक बुढ़े फकीर ने उससे कहा,बैठ भी जा, कमरे को तेरी कोई फिक्र नहीं है। उसका मन और बंद हो गया होगा।
संत सदय नहीं हैं। संत इतने एकात्म को उपलब्ध हो गए हैं अस्तित्व से कि अस्तित्व ही उनके भीतर से बोलता, अस्तित्व ही उनके भीतर से व्यवहार करता, अस्तित्व उनके भीतर से उठता-बैठता है; संत नहीं। यह स्मरण रहे, तो लाओत्से का यह बहुत अजीब सा दिखने वाला सूत्र आसान हो जाएगा। और काश, हभम संतों को इस भांति देख सकें, तो संतों के संबंध में हमारी सारी दृष्टि और हो
जाएगी। हम और ढंग से देख पाएंगे, सोेच पाएंगे । लेकिन संत के पास भी हम अपनी दृष्टि लेकर जाते हैं। हम संत को समझने नहीं जाते , हम अपनी दृष्टि का आकंलन करने जाते हैं।
यदि हम सुनते भी हैं संत को, तो हम इस हिसाब से सुनते हैं कि कौन सी बात इसमें सही है। सही का मतलब क्या होता है ? आपसे कौन सी बात मेल खाती है। सत्य का क्या मतलब होता है ? जिसको आप सत्य मानते हैं , वह अगर मेल खाता हो, तो आदमी ठीक है। अगर वह मेल न खाता हो, तोआदमी गलत है। आप अपने को मापदंड बना कर घूम रहे हैं। आपका संत से मिलना भी नहीं हो सकेगा कभी।
लाओत्से जिस संत की बात कर रहा है, वह आपको न मिलेगा। हां, कोई रेवड़ी बांटने वाला संत आपको मिल सकता है। आपकी जीभ पर एक रेवड़ी रख देगा, बहुत खुशी होगी। वह घास का जो कुत्ता है, बहुत प्रसन्न होगा; और कहेगा, बिलकुल ठीक! सिर पर पानी छिड़क देगा और कहेगा कि आशीर्वाद ! जा, सभी में सफलता मिलेगी! तंत्र-मंत्र दे देगा कुछ, अदालत में मुकदमा जीतो, हारा हुआ प्रेम बाजी बदल दो, कहीं किसी लाटरी में नंबर लगा दो ! वे आदमी आपको मिल जाएंगे । लाओत्से का संत आपको नहीं मिलेगा।

Lao Tzu is not a member, he is not harsh. But Confucius must have felt harsh. Because great thinkers like Confucius,
He had more prestige than Laotsay. Laotse knew less, Confucius more. And in two and a half thousand years Laotse created the mind of China, not Confucius. So Confucius was more prestigious. Saints are not members. The saints have become so united with existence that existence itself speaks from within them, existence itself behaves from within them, existence arises from within them; Not a saint. If this is remembered, this very strange looking formula of Laotse will become easier. And if we can see the saints like this, then we have all the vision in relation to the saints
Will go. We will be able to see more, think more. But we also take our vision to the saint. We do not go to understand the saint, we go to assess our vision.
Even if we listen to the saint, we listen according to what is right in this. What does correct mean? What matches you What does truth mean? If what you believe to be true matches it, then the man is fine. If it does not match, then the man is wrong. You are moving around by making yourself the criteria. You will never be able to meet a saint.
You will not find the saint Laotse is referring to. Yes, you can find a revolving saint. Will put a revolt on your tongue, very happy. The grass dog is very happy; And will say, All right! Will splash water on the head and say blessings! Ja, everyone will get success! Tantra-mantra will give some, win the case in court, change the lost love bet, put a number in some lottery! Those men will find you. You will not find a Saint of Lao Tzu.
