बुद्ध को दिया गया है भोजन, वह विषाक्त है, वे चुपचाप कर गए । मुंह में कड़वा मालूम पड़ा, जहर था बिलकुल। पीछे लोगों
ने कहा कि आपने कैसा पागलपन किया ! आप जैसा बुद्धिमान, आप जैसा सजग पुरुष, की जो रात सोते में भी जागता है, उसे पता न पड़ा हो जहर पीते वक्त, यह हम नहीं मान सकते हैं। बुद्ध ने कहा, पूरा पता पड़ रहा था। पहला कौर मुंह में रखा था, तभी जाहिर हो
गया था। विषाक्त था, जहर था।
तो थूक क्यों न दिया? मना क्यों न किया ? और कौर क्यों ले लिया ?
बुद्ध ने कहा, वह जिसने खाना बनाया था, उसे पीड़ा होती। उसे अकारण पीड़ा होती; उसे अकारण दुःख होता। वह बहुत दीन और गरीब था। उसकी हंडी में सब्जी भी इतनी ही थी, मेरे लायक। और वह इतना आनंदित था कि उसके आनंद को विषाक्त करने का कोई भी तो कारण नहीं था।
पर लोगों ने कहा, आप यह क्या कह रहे हैं! आपकी मृत्यु भी घटित हो सकती है।
तो बुद्ध ने कहा, मैं तो उसी दिन मर गया अपनी तरफ से, जिस दिन वासना क्षीण हुई, जिस दिन तृष्णा समाप्त हुई। आयु-कर्म है।
वह घड़ा जब तक चल जाए !
तो अगर इस घर में रखे घड़े को कोई आकर डंडे से फोड़ता होगा, तो भी नहीं रोकेगा। फोड़ने भी नहीं जाएगा; इसे कोई डंडे से फोड़ता होगा, तो भी नहीं रोकेगा। पर यह आखिरी है, क्योंकि अब दुबारा घड़ा खरीदने इस तरह की चेतना नहीं जाती। दुबारा उसका जन्म नहीं है। जन्म-मरण से मुक्ति का इतना ही अर्थ है कि जिसने शून्य होने का तय कर लिया, अब उसे पुनः घडों को खरीदने का
प्रयोजन नहीं रह गया है।

But people said, what are you saying! Your death may also occur. So the Buddha said, I died the same day from my side, the day the lust waned, the day craving ended. It is age-action.
Till that pot lasts! So even if someone comes and breaks the pitcher kept in this house, it will not stop. Won't break even; If someone breaks it with a stick, it will not stop. But this is the last, because now buying such a pot again does not leave such consciousness. He is not born again. The meaning of freedom from birth and death is so much that one who has decided to be zero, now has to buy the watches again.
The purpose is no longer there.
