लाओत्से कहता है, धर्म है रिक्त घड़े की भांति। ताओ यानि धर्म। धर्म है रिक्त घड़े की भांति। और जिसे धर्म को पाना हो, उसे सभी
तरह की पूर्णताओं से सावधान रहना पड़ेगा।
यह बहुत अदभूत बात है–सभी तरह की पूर्णताओं से। नहीं कि घड़े में धन भर जाएगा, तो बाधा पड़ेगी । घड़े में ज्ञान भर जाएगा, तो
भी बाधा पड़ेगी। घड़े में त्याग भर जाएगा, तो भी बाधा पड़ेगी। घड़े में कुछ भी होगा, तो बाधा पड़ेगी। घड़े बस खाली ही होना चाहिए ।
लेकिन हम सब तो जीवन में न मालूम किन-किन द्वारों से पूर्ण होने की कोशिश में लगे होते हैं। हमें लगता ही ऐसा है कि जीवन
इसलिए है की हम पूर्ण हो जाएं। किसी न किसी माध्यम से, किसी न किसी मार्ग से पूर्णता हमारी हो, मैं हो जाऊं । उपदेशक
समझाते हैं,माता-पिता अपने बच्चों को कहते हैं, शिक्षक अपने विद्यार्थियों को कहता है, गुरु अपने शिष्यों को कहते हैं कि क्या जीवन
ऐसे ही गंवा दोगे ? अधूरे आए , अधूरे ही चले जाओगे ? पूरा नहीं होना है ? पूर्ण नहीं बनना है ? अकारथ है जीवन, अगर पूरे न बने। कुछ तो पा लो । खाली मत रह जाओ।
और लाओत्से कहता है कि जिसे धर्म को पाना है, उसे सभी तरह की पूर्णताओं से सावधान रहना पड़ेगा । नहीं, उसे पूर्ण होना ही नहीं
है। उसे अपूर्ण भी नहीं रह जाना है। उसे शून्य हो जाना है।
