ये मनुष्य के इतिहास में बोले गए सबसे ज्यादा पैराडाक्सिकल वचन हैं, और सबसे मूल्यवान। इन एक- एक वचन से एक- एक बाइबिल निर्मित हो सकती है। लाओत्से कहता है कि चूंकि उनका अपना कोई स्वार्थ नहीं, उनके सब स्वार्थ पूरे हो जाते हैं। वह कह यह रहा है
कि स्वार्थ, जीवन का जो परम आनंद है, वही जीवन का स्वार्थ है। जो व्यक्ति अहंकार को छोड़ देता है, वह परम आनंद को उपलब्ध
हो जाता है। और जो व्यक्ति अहंकार को छोड़ देता है, उसके लिए भय समाप्त हो जाता है। क्योंकि अहंकार के साथ भय है कि मैं
मिट न जाऊं , नष्ट न हो जाऊं , हार न जाऊं , असफल न हो जाऊं । ये सब भय समाप्त हो गए । जहां भय नहीं है, वहां सुरक्षा है।
हम तो उलटा करते हैं। जितनी सुरक्षा करते हैं, उतने असुरक्षित हो जाते हैं। और जितने बचना चाहते हैं, उतने भयभीत हो जाते हैं।
और जितना सोेचते हैं कि अपने को बचा लें, बचा लें, बचा लें, उतना ही पाते हैं कि अपने को खोते चले जा रहे हैं, खोते चले जा रहे
हैं।
लाओत्से कहता है, अगर कभी भंवर में फंस जाओ, तो पहला काम यह करना, भंवर से लड़ना मत , भंवर के साथ डूबने को राजी हो
जाना। तो तुम्हारी ताकत जरा भी नष्ट न होगी। और भंवर शीघ्रता से आदमी को नीेेचे ले जाता है। भंवर ऊपर बड़ा होता है, नीचे
छोटा होता जाता है। स्क्रू की तरह नीेेचे छोटा होता जाता है। नीेेचे से बच कर निकलने में जरा भी कठिनाई नहीं है। अपने आप
आदमी निकल जाता है। लेकिन ऊपर जो लड़ता है, वह नीेेचे बचता है, तब तक ताकत नहीं रहती। डूब जाना भँवर के साथ, नीेचे
निकल आना बाहर। कुछ करना न पड़ेगा।
लाओत्से कहते हैं, सुरक्षित हैं वे , जिन्हें सुरक्षा की कोई चिंता न रही। अभय हो गए, जिन्होंने भय को अंगीकार कर लिया, भय से जो बचते नहीं। आगे आ गए, जो पीछे खड़े होने को राजी हो गए । और जो मिटने को तैयार,मरने को तैयार, अमृत उनकी उपलब्धि है।
